Postpartum Essentials For Mom For A Faster Postpartum Recovery
Vaginal birth is often considered the safest method for delivering babies, offering benefits such as a stronger immune system for newborns and quicker recovery times for mothers. However, there are drawbacks, with perineal tears being one of the most concerning. These tears, caused by the baby’s passage through the birth canal, can range from minor first-degree tears to more severe third or fourth-degree tears that require stitches. Healing from childbirth is already challenging, and dealing with stitches adds another layer of difficulty. That’s why ensuring you have the right postpartum essentials on hand is crucial for a smoother recovery.
These postpartum essentials can help alleviate pain and discomfort, promote healing, and make the postpartum period more manageable. From soothing oils and sprays to supportive undergarments and comfortable pillows, having the right tools at hand can make a world of difference. Without them, the healing process can be more painful and prolonged, making it crucial for new mothers to be prepared.
So, whether you’re preparing for your first childbirth experience or adding to your postpartum toolkit, investing in these essentials is a wise decision. By prioritizing self-care and equipping yourself with the right products, you can navigate the postpartum period with greater ease and comfort, allowing you to focus on bonding with your newborn and adjusting to your new role as a mother.

Tips & Products Needed To Heal From A Vaginal Birth Quickly
1. Stool Softeners
Please don’t go without stool softeners. The first time you poop after having a baby will be tough, ESPECIALLY if you experienced a perineal tear! I didn’t know about stool softeners at first when I had my baby so it was extremely painful and my stitches even came out and I had to go to the hospital to get stitches again. It was horrible.
You can also eat foods that soften your stools like vegetables, fruits, anything with fiber and also drink lot’s of water! I do however find stool softener more effective and they give faster results.
2. Squirt bottle
If you experienced a vaginal tear you will not be able to wipe, especially if you got stitches. This squirt bottle will allow you clean the area well without hurting yourself. All you do is fill it with water, spray and then pat dry.
3. Pain Killers
I hate pills, I can swallow them with no problem that’s not the reason why I hate them. I just don’t like to hide pain. If there’s pain that means I should be looking into it and trying to fix the underlying reason. But, when I know the reason and I know I’m going to get better I just need to get through the pain, I will take some Advil.
If you are breastfeeding, I’ve done the research for you. Advil is a good option. But always consult with your doctor.
4. Bath salts
Bath salts help relax muscles all over your body, which can relieve any pain caused by a tear. It also improves blood flow and helps reduce swelling, so it’ll help you heal faster.
5. Pain Relieving Spray
I used this pain relieving spray every time that I went to the restroom after delivering my son. It has a cooling effect so when you spray, it immediately helps relieve some of the pain and even relieves itching.
6. Yoni Oil
After applying this pain relieving spray, I would then apply some of this Yoni Oil. It is one of my favorite postpartum essentials it’s made specifically for down there. It’s meant to help balance your PH levels and keep you feeling fresh down there but I was using it to keep the area moisturized. It helped with itching, at times I would feel very dry and uncomfortable and I would feel way better after applying this. The pain reliving spray helps but you have to keep reapplying it very often, this oil would help for longer periods. I love that it’s 100% natural.
7. Nursing pillow/ Donut Cushion
I didn’t know that I was supposed to be sitting on a nursing pillow or donut cushion after having a baby. The first time I sat on the couch was actually the second time my stitches came out.
The cushion will elevate your bottom so that you don’t put pressure on the stitches.
If you didn’t get stitches you probably don’t need this.
8. Postpartum Underwear
Don’t buy maxi pads, they’re very uncomfortable and even painful and too rough. Some are too thick and it will only rub on your skin causing more damage. I blame maxi pads for the 3rd time my stitches came out because the pad would constantly rub on the stitches when I’d move around.
After I started using these underwear I was much more comfortable.
9. Witch hazel pads
Witch hazel pads help fight bacteria and prevent infection. Place them in the fridge so they’re cold when you use them, it will help relieve some of the pain.
Place place 3-4 witch hazel pads on your postpartum underwear. Its so relieving.

Yes to all of those. I had a 2nd degree tear with my second and the recovery was pretty awful. I think I recovered faster after my c-section with my first. I also bought these very comfortable ice packs that are meant for vaginal recovery. They were very helpful in alleviating the pain. Also sitting on a heat pad helped a lot.
Oh wow I will have to try the heat pad next time. Sounds soothing.
I can so relate. It’s been six months and I’m still recovering. Squirt bottle and dermoplast helped me too
Oh wow. It’s crazy how long it can take to fully recover from childbirth.
Great article!! PADSICLES are the best for after delivery!! Freeze a maxi pad with aloe vera gel, witch hazel and lavendar essential oils!! ughh its so soothing and helps heal!
I wish I thought of that when I was pregnant. Everything I mentioned above helped so much, but a frozen pad down there sounds so relieving !
Whata brave title, and once I read this – I feel so much better. Having another baby is one thing, but thinking about the process really scares me!
Exactly ! So, when ever I get baby fever I think about my birth experience and it goes away haha
