Motherhood is a a tough but exciting journey and you will want to capture every moment of it. You might be cooking your own bundle of joy right now! If so, Congratulations!!! I’m going to share a few maternity photography ideas that are going to help you get the perfect pictures.
You probably have in mind to schedule a maternity shoot, so here are some tips to prepare you for the day. I’m so in love with our maternity photos I had to share. A simple idea anyone can accomplish.
Anyway, lets get to it!
How To Prepare For The Perfect Maternity Pictures
When To Schedule Your Maternity Shoot?
You should schedule a maternity shoot towards the end of your pregnancy at 7 or 8 months. I had mine at 8 months. For me it was the perfect time because any later of a date and I’d be pushing it.
Everyone’s belly grows at a different pace. So, some sound advice: When your belly is big and round, it’s the perfect time! If you’re having complications during your pregnancy I suggest you talk to your doctor and maybe even schedule the shoot before 7 months.
How To Chose A Photographer?
Do your research, look at potential photographer’s previous work and hire someone with experience. All photographers have different rates however, I don’t think you should be paying more than $500/hour. I paid $350/hour and I got 15 edited photos.
Once in contact with a photographer, show them all ideas you have in mind so that they can share your vision, and confirm they’re able to perform your request.
How To Chose A Location?
Choose a location with a beautiful scenery. We chose the beach! It’s my favorite place. We took photos by the water, walking along the sand, and under a pier as the sun began to set.
What To Wear?
You don’t have to match the way Brian and I did. But pick the color of your clothes depending on where you will be shooting. Lighter colors are always better for outdoors, in my opinion. As well as sheer material if its a sunny day.
How To Do Your Make-Up?
If you decide to do your make-up, make sure that you bring it to the shoot because you will have to retouch it every now and then. Don’t forget your chap stick or lip gloss, you don’t want to have dry lips in the photos!
False lashes always make your eyes look bigger, I always feel more beautiful when I put them on. I totally recommend MJ from KB cosmetics. They have the right amount of volume without looking too dramatic. You can use the code “MOMMA” for 10% off
How To Do Your Hair?
PUT HAIRSPRAY ON! That’s it, whether you straighten or curl your hair, put hairspray to help keep it in place in case it’s windy.
Props?
Bring something to sit on, specially if you are shooting at a park or beach, the ground can be wet and your clothes can get dirtied.
Bring a color that would look good with the color of your dress.
